Trish Keenan

  • Broadcast’s wonderful voice and visionary, Trish Keenan, passed away this morning from complications with pneumonia. Broadcast were one of the rare bands that I loved in the 90′s, right into today. Trish’s distinct, otherworldly voice was a huge part of Broadcast’s sound, and she also helped drive the band’s hazy, retro-futuristic aesthetic. I loved seeing them evolve, all the while staying true to their sound and style. Every Broadcast record evolved from the last, but you always knew it was them. Beautiful, spooky, and lush. R.I.P. Trish.
  • Moving, moving… A nifty video which shows how Spike Jonze shot the bouncy, super-fun video for The Pharcyde’s bouncy, super-fun song, “Drop”. And the original…
  • Siouxsie goes a little Stevie Nicks...

Take a trip back in time with the killer blog, Like Punk Never Happened, a mindbogglingly exhaustive library of scans from old UK music rag, Smash Hits. I’m not sure if this guy has all of them, but damn if he isn’t trying to. The scans are pretty high res, and they make great desktop backgrounds. Throw on that old Jam vinyl that you’ve got collecting dust and wish for a time when bands really knew how to rock AND dress.

  • All ovah yuh bahdee

Holy crap! Popular is 50+ years of pop music history gets a revisionist view. Tom Ewing of Freaky Trigger reviews every single UK #1 Hit. Most blurbs are short and sweet, but he pulls out the big guns when it’s appropriate.  Pretty darn fun to look back at songs (and weird popculture moments) you may have forgotten about (Remember Jive Bunny?). Harken back to a time when Madge was TOTALLY RAD and human and really into eye makeup.

  • And another, for Trish. You will be missed.
